The 19th century was an extremely dynamic period of time. Imperialism was taking root and carving up Africa, slavery was losing traction at an astonishing pace, and nationalism, the belief that ones country is superior to all others was on the rise. With the conception of Nation-States abroad as well as many instances of the upheaval of corrupt governments, replaced by just ones (mostly), political reform was on the rise as well.
