This timeline demonstrates the gradual development of religions in relation to the development and transition of various empires.
Section 2.1.1 discussed the role of early world religions (Christianity, Buddhism, Confucianism, Greco-Roman Philosophy and Daoism) as a "bonding force and an ethical code to live by". The era of second-wave classical civilizations saw the rise of state-wide religions which governed lifestyles and influenced laws.
